  • Difficulty breathing

Depending on the size and the speed with which the thoracic aortic aneurysm is growing, the treatment can vary depending on the case.

Aneurysms smaller than 5 cm in diameter and completely asymptomatic should be closely monitored with CT scan or chest ultrasound every 6 months. If necessary, in these cases it may be indicated prescription drugs able to reduce the risk of rupture.

  • Traditional surgery: This type of surgery involves replacing the aneurysmal segment with a synthetic graft through an incision in the chest.
  • Endovascular surgery: In which is inserted a small metal scaffold (stent coated) inside the aorta which provides support to the weakened aorta inserted through tiny incisions in the femoral artery of the groin.
