Rice water for hair care: How to prepare and apply

Some of you already know the amazing properties of water left over from cooking rice is rich in precious elements such as vitamin B, folic acid, iron, potassium, zinc and magnesium, that the rice lost during the cooking process (especially rice white, which loses more nutrients during cooking compared to other types of rice).

The rice water use for health and beauty has ancient origins and is a practice born in Asia, where rice consumption (especially in China, Japan and all over the Southeast Asia) is known to all. Traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, for example, since ancient times using rice for different purposes but have been mostly Asian women to discover the benefits that the rice water offers for hair care. Because the rice water is so precious

The rice water owes its fame to three reasons in particular:

  • It is rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamin E ;
  • It contains traces of pitera , substance produced during the fermentation process of rice;
  • It contains nutrients agents able to heal scars, reduce wrinkles and heal skin.

In short, the rice water can be used for both hair care (making them stronger, shiny, soft, elastic) for the cleaning body and face. Especially for the latter, the rice water helps soften and firm the skin.

How to obtain the rice water for hair care

There are several ways to get the rice water that we use to treat our hair: we show you those simple and immediately feasible.

Boiled rice water

  • In a pot, pour a quantity of water 2-3 times higher than that usually used to cook rice and bring to the boil;
  • Shed a normal amount of rice and cook;
  • Once cooked rice, divide it by the water (which will have assumed, in the meantime, a vivid white color and contain a high concentration of nutrients);
  • Dilute the water of cooking rice with a cup of clean water;
  • Immediately use the rice water obtained or refrigerate in a covered container for up to 1 week.

Fermented rice water

  • Take a container and pour two cups of water and a half cup of rice;
  • Let rest for 15 minutes;
  • Divide the rice from the water;
  • Let stand the rice water obtained in a glass container, at room temperature, for up to 48 h;
  • Once the water has a sour smell, pour into a saucepan and boil;
  • Once boiling, cool it to stop the fermentation process;
  • Once cooled, dilute it a bit ‘and use it to tone the skin and / or hair rinse.

Rice water without boiling

  • Take a container and pour two cups of water and a half cup of rice;
  • Let rest for 15 minutes;
  • Divide the rice from the water;
  • Immediately use the rice water obtained for the face and / or Hair

How to apply the rice water

Once poured the rice water on the hair, you can start to massage your scalp gently, continuing to pour water on the hair.

When finished, rinse your hair with water whose temperature is slightly higher than that of rice.
